Test permanence at three separate layers

1. Image: can a camera decode the final printed file?
2. Address: does the exact encoded URL still resolve without a paid redirect?
3. Content: can an intended reader access the current document without signing into your account?

For a seasonal menu, record the public menu URL, print date and first test. After replacing the menu, repeat the signed-out phone test using the original printed code. A readable image opening an old or inaccessible file has not “expired”; its destination needs maintenance. Keep your domain registration and document ownership under your control, and include a readable fallback URL.

Use the PDF workflow for documents and retain a local acceptance log. No generator can guarantee the lifetime of an external host.

No expiration applies to the QR image

A static code remains the same file indefinitely and this generator does not impose a subscription timer. If it contains a web address, the page, domain, permissions, and hosting must remain available.

Choose a destination you control when printing long-lived packaging or signs. A stable page can be updated without changing its address.

Plan for physical and organizational lifespan

Sunlight, scratches, folds, low ink, and redesigns can make a valid code difficult to scan. Keep the original SVG, document the encoded destination, and include QR checks in periodic reviews of public materials.
